Welcome to Purple4Life – Building the Purple Future
The Purple4Life Newsletter brings you closer to our mission: transforming purple bacteria (PPB) into a sustainable solution for life and the planet. Funded by the European Union, the project explores how these extraordinary microorganisms can help recover valuable resources, reduce waste and support a true circular bioeconomy based on PPB.
In this first issue, discover how our journey began—from lab innovation with purple bacteria to real-world applications—and meet the people shaping the “purple future” of sustainability.

Purple4Life & PURPLEGAIN Joint Workshop on Purple Bacteria
Join us in Mons (Belgium) on 19–20 March 2026 for a workshop focused on innovative applications of purple bacteria (PPB). Registration and abstract submissions are now open for researchers, start-ups and innovators working on PPB metabolism, aquaculture, food and feed applications, functional ingredients and regulatory pathways.
Submit your abstract by 15 January 2026 and be part of this key meeting advancing PPB-based solutions for sustainable food and feed.

How does Purple4Life contribute to sustainability and circular bioeconomy?
Learn how purple bacteria (PPB) and PPB-based processes support circularity through nutrient recovery, wastewater valorisation and the development of bio-based products. Purple4Life demonstrates how PPB link sustainability, biotechnology and circular bioeconomy strategies.
